One option you could try for your entry this season is to do a still life! Still life photography is the depiction of inanimate subject matter, most typically a small grouping of objects. Still life photography, more so than other types of photography, such as landscape or portraiture, gives the photographer more freedom in the arrangement of design elements within a composition. A still life doesn’t have to be of flowers and fruit (although these are historically popular choices for this style), you can make your own still life using whatever objects you like (food, clothing, toys, documents, Bieber pencil case…)

Martin Klimas, Untitled, 2008

Over the next while the blog will be sharing fresh approaches by artists to the idea of the still life! Stay tuned and together we can dust off that ol’ idea machine and make your entry for this season’s Foreign Object your most creative yet.
